Kinder Morgan fined $570,000 for ethanol oil leak in Pennsylvania

January 6, 2016 |

In Pennsylvania, Kinder Morgan has been fined $570,000 by the state’s Department of Environmental Protection for a spill of about 8,000 gallons of fuel ethanol that leaked from its liquids terminal in Philadelphia. The ethanol contaminated soil and groundwater that is near the Delaware River. The spill was reported last June, later than the law requires after such an incident. Whether or not ethanol reached the river is unclear because of its tides that are not always in contact with groundwater.
