In Minnesota, Green Biologics has begun the conversion of 21 million gallon per year Central Minnesota Renewables, formerly known as Central Minnesota Ethanol Cooperative, to produce butanol and acetone. The plant will continue to produce ethanol until the last possible minute when it switches over. Already more than $75 million has been raised for the conversion. Most of the chemicals will be destined for the US market but some exports are expected. Corn will continue to be the primary feedstock.
