Katter seeks to bring E10 debate back onto Australian agenda

January 26, 2016 |

In Australia, MP Bob Katter is back on the campaign trail to push for a national E10 blending mandate to help reduce the country’s reliance on fossil fuel imports and support local agri industries including sugar and grains. Currently oil imports account for about 90% of domestic fuel consumption. He said sugar could account for 40% of the ethanol demand for an E10, boosting prices by 30%, while the remaining ethanol would come from grain, pushing prices 16%. MPs in his Katter’s Australian Party in the Queensland parliament are also introducing a legislation for local mandated blending of 10%.
