Agile Biomanufacturing Industry Listening Day Workshop

February 28, 2016 |

In California, a consortium of nine national laboratories is holding the Agile Biomanufacturing Industry Listening Workshop on March 15, 2016 in Berkeley, California, to increase understanding of industry needs for synthetic biology technologies to make renewable fuels and chemicals. DOE National laboratories have developed deep and unique capabilities to build powerful infrastructure and scientific engineering activities. This consortium seeks to develop an agile biomanufacturing platform that uses synthetic biology tools to rapidly engineer industrially relevant organisms for fuel and chemical production. This platform would incorporate state-of-the-art software in combination with high-throughput laboratory equipment and metabolic pathway engineering to accelerate development of advanced biofuels, as well as renewable chemicals and materials. The platform will enable companies, national laboratories, and universities to develop biological processes efficiently and with reduced risk, and to create bio-derived products through safer processes and/or with better performance than their petroleum-derived predecessors.

The laboratories are eager to gather constructive input from industry to refine the vision, gather information on critical research and development issues that affect the BioEconomy, and understand organizational and management strategies most likely to be successful for future industry engagement.

*This workshop is focused on gathering input from industry stakeholders and will be restricted to those participants. The labs will be reaching out to university, federal, and other stakeholders later in the year,” the national labs said in a joint statement.

Visit the workshop website for more information, including a draft agenda and registration and location details.
