Ontario’s ethanol producers fund may not be renewed in 2017

In Canada, ahead of next year’s expiry of Ontario’s C$520 million Ontario Ethanol Growth Fund for producers, the subsidy scheme is coming under scrutiny due to allegations that the largest corporate donor to the province’s liberal party has received C$160 million in ethanol subsidies since 2007 when the fund first came online. The province’s premier recognizes the kick-start the fund has had on the ethanol industry but appears to be interested in finding other tools to support green industries rather than continuing the fund after its expiry.
