Calgren further diversifying ethanol plant with biogas-power co-gen

May 10, 2016 |

In California, Calgren has invested in an 11MW co-generation system that will power its ethanol production facility as to further diversify the already highly diversified biorefinery. The company will start selling 5MW back to the national grid starting next month. It is using biogas from its new digester to fire the boilers used for the co-generation, using manure from a nearby dairy and then returning the solids for use as animal bedding for the cows. The ethanol facility also produces DDGS and corn oil as well as liquefied CO2 through a partnership with Air Liquid.
