Malaysian palm oil stocks fall to 14-month lows as El Niño hits producti

May 12, 2016 |

In Malaysia, palm oil stocks have fallen to 14-month lows at 1.80 million metric tons in April, down 4.5% from March. Bloomberg had expected stocks to be around 1.82 million ton in April. Production during the month increased 6.7 percent to 1.30 million tons while exports fell 3 percent to 1.16 million tons but production is still being negatively impacted by dryness from El Niño, hitting yields. Weather during the next few weeks will dictate how badly yields are impacted later in the year.
