Mexico hesitant to raise ethanol blend beyond 5.8%

In Mexico, the energy regulator CRE is moving forward very cautiously with ethanol blending, establishing a maximum 5.8% blend as part of its new fuel standards. The agency is imposing new fuel standards for low sulfur diesel, impacting about 40% of the current supplies, but when it comes to ethanol it says that it plans to hold the maximum level steady for the foreseeable future until “very dramatic, solid information” is presented that convinces the agency to boost blending levels.
