Biofuels seen key to achieving ICAO GHG goals

In Belgium, biofuels remain the likely lynchpin to reducing aviation carbon emissions as efficiency in design reducing fuel consumption can’t outpace the increase in air traffic. When the International Civil Aviation Organization meetings in late September to finalize an agreement on the creation of a global market-based mechanism to offset CO2 emissions from international flights, biofuels are expected to be a major part of the deal despite their prices still being higher than fossil fuels and volumes still relatively small.
