Brazilian mills keep focus on ethanol but wet weather means production behind last year

July 18, 2016 |

In Brazil, sugarcane mills continued to focus on ethanol production during the last half of June thanks to dry weather conditions that helped them bring in a huge amount of cane following weeks that had impeded the crush. Ethanol production is down 4% so far this year as a result of the delays despite more than 55% of the cane going towards the fuel. During the period, 47.89 million metric tons of cane were crushed, nearly double to the first half of the month.
