July 19, 2016 |

In Latvia, the USDA Foreign Agriculture Service said in a recent report that biodiesel production grew 7% in 2015 over the previous year to 85,000 metric tons while no ethanol was produced during either year yet installed production capacity is 156,000 tons. Biodiesel is produced from rapeseed oil, and half of the country’s oil production went to biodiesel during 2014 and 2015. Biomass and wind power are being actively developed with more than 50% of heating, cooling and power coming from renewable sources while only about 3% of transport fuel comes from renewables.
