Aemetis: “a major market opportunity,” in cellulosic ethanol

July 31, 2016 |

In California, Aemetis offered an update.on its development of cellulosic ethanol options, noting that California cellulosic ethanol values have increased to as high as $4.60 per gallon.

“Current [cellulosic ethanol] production levels are far below the RFS mandate as the products from several technologies have been slow to grow giving Aemetis a major market opportunity,” the company said. It added that the pending acquisition of Edeniq and the licensing of LanzaTech’s waste-to-ethanol technology will allow Aemetis to produce low-carbon cellulosic ethanol with low feedstock and capex costs. Aemetis’ cellulosic ethanol strategy is to close the acquisition of Edeniq and obtain EPA approval on D3 RINs. Aemetis plans to accelerate the adoption of Edeniq technology at U.S.  ethanol plants, with a target of five ethanol plants per year.

Aemetis has also acquired exclusive rights in California to LanzaTech’s patented technology for the conversion of agricultural waste, forest waste, dairy waste, and hazardous waste to ethanol in California. This technology will allow Aemetis to reduce feedstock costs and produce cellulosic ethanol valued at up to approx. $3 per gallon more than traditional ethanol.
