As Mexico looks to mandate ethanol blending, US looks to fill supply gap

In Mexico, the US Grains Council is eyeing the country as a potential importer to fill the gap between the 790 million gallons of ethanol that would be required to satisfy a possible E6 blend while the country ramps up from its current 66 million gallons of annual production. In addition to sugarcane, the country’s main feedstock at the moment, the industry is exploring sorghum as well. Tank infrastructure is not in place, however, to facilitate blending so would need to be installed before exports to Mexico could ramp up to any major degree.
