US ethanol installed production capacity rose for third straight year in 2016

In Washington, the Energy Information Agency says that installed production capacity for ethanol rose for the third-straight year in early 2016 to 973,000 barrels per day, close to 15 billion gallons per year. That figure is 500 million gallons higher than in 2015. Production has reached past nameplate production capacity to more than 1 million gallons per day nearly a dozen times. Of the total, 13.5 billion gallons of production is located in the Midwest, with 12 of the top 13 top producing states located in the region.
