September 13, 2016 |

In India, the National Green Tribunal has slammed the Uttar Pradesh government, the Indian Sugar Mills Association and others for not shutting down ethanol production from mills that don’t have hazardous materials licenses in contravention of the Manufacture, Storage and Import of Hazardous Chemical Rules 1989. The NGT issued the order on May 9 and the hearing regarding the contempt notices issued this week will be held October 6. The court says only two of UP’s 35 distilleries had the required licenses.
