Borregaard invests $70.7M in bioethanol plant upgrade

September 16, 2016 |

In Norway, Borregaard is going to install modern production technology at a bioethanol plant and construct a facility to capture and store biogas.

This will create sufficient capacity to deliver the whole production as 100% water-free bioethanol. The demand for bioethanol in automotive fuel is increasing.

The new installation will also make it possible to capture and store a bigger part of the available biogas, and thus increase the internal use. Borregaard is a significant producer of biogas from process residues, which is used internally as an environmentally friendly source of energy.

The project will start in the second half of 2016. The upgrade of the plant will be completed in 2017 and the biogas installation will be finished in 2018.

Borregaard has been awarded a grant of NOK 18.9 million ($21.22 million) for this project from Enova, a Norwegian government agency which promotes the use of renewable fuel.
