Ethanol Europe says EU 2030 transport strategy puts 133,000 rural jobs at risks

September 21, 2016 |

In Hungary, the CEO of Ethanol Europe says the European Commission’s Low-Emission Mobility Strategy that aims to supply up to 17% of transport energy needs from advanced biofuels by 2030 directly puts 133,000 rural jobs at risk. By moving away from first generation ethanol, European farmers would lose 30 million metric tons of feed corn and feed wheat demand that would have economic repercussions throughout the EU and its rural areas. About $1.12 billion of negative impact would hit the Hungarian GDP alone if Ethanol Europe’s Pannonia Ethanol was to shut down.
