Critics urge New York City to vote down B5 proposal for heating oil

September 26, 2016 |

In New York state, the Clean Air Task Force says that boosting New York City’s use of biodiesel in heating oil to 5% from the current 2% will encourage increased palm oil use and therefore higher GHG emissions while Habitmap says the increased demand will lead to more glyphosate use as a result of more GMO soybean production. The City Council plans to vote on the proposed rule Wednesday that would see 5% blending by October, 10% by 2020, 15% by 2025 and 20% by 2030.
