October 3, 2016 |

In Florida, Gingko BioWorks, Reverdia and Calysta have taken the lead in early voting in the 40 Hottest Emerging Companies in the Advanced Bioeconomy ballot. The Digest released the early-voting totals from Subscriber Voting — which do not yet include Social Votes or Invited International Selector votes.

The Rise of Fresh Faces

Companies such as AltAir Fuels, Impossible Foods, Caribou Biosciences, Ripple Foods, Clara Foods, Hampton Creek, Industrial Microbes, Zymergen, Bolt Threads, Gen9, Arzeda, Sustainability Consult and Beyond Meat were making strong runs in early subscriber voting as attention shifted among Digest readers to microbe development platforms and advanced nutrition.

In all, more than 60% of the companies currently in the preliminary rankings in the balloting have not previously appeared in the Hot 40.
