In Kansas, Shell filed a $26 million stalking horse bid for Abengoa’s 25 million gallon per year Hugoton cellulosic ethanol plant, a mere 5% of the project’s development and build cost. The offer was made on October 12 with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court of the District of Kansas and a hearing was held on October 14. If other bids were received, an auction will be held Nov. 21 Court documents confirmed that the facility is currently not operational, following reports that workers had been laid off last December.
