Tamil Nadu farmers and mills seek high court’s help to supply ethanol for E5

In India, sugarcane farmers and mills in Tamil Nadu are hoping that the local variation of a class action lawsuit, a public interest litigation in the High Court, will help see the restrictions lifted that have so far kept them from producing ethanol to supply the national blending mandate. Last year, the state government only allowed mills to produce 5 million liters of ethanol and convert 1 million liters of impure spirit toward the blending mandate that required more than 2 billion liters.
