Cape Cod town gets closer to producing biodiesel from grease trap waste

November 22, 2016 |

In Massachusetts, the town of Yarmouth will move that much closer to becoming a biodiesel producer thanks to a $150,000 grant from the state’s Department of Environmental Protection’s Sustainable Materials Recovery Program (SMRP)/Organics Capacity Project that will go towards purchasing the required equipment. The community is currently collecting grease trap waste that will eventually be used to produce fuel.

MassDEP SMRP Municipal Grants offer funding to cities, towns and regional entities – as well as certain non-profit organizations that provide services to them – for recycling, composting, reuse and source reduction activities that will increase diversion of municipal solid waste and household hazardous waste from disposal.
