Pannonia Ethanol scores financing for Hungarian biorefinery expansion

November 23, 2016 |

In Hungary, a consortium of local banks have agreed to fund EUR135 million towards Pannonia Ethanol’s proposed expansion of its Dunaföldvár facility. The company claims that the facility is already Europe’s largest biorefinery and the expansion will help it boost efficiency and production of bioproducts including animal feed. As of next year, the facility will purchase more than 1 million metric tons of corn of farmers annually. The company is urging the governments of Hungary and Ireland to act against the European Commission’s plans to phase out first-generation ethanol.
