Tight Chicago ethanol market sees Argo jump more than 8 cents in a day

December 12, 2016 |

In Illinois, Chicago Argo ethanol prices jumped more than 8 cents per gallon to $1.84/gal on Friday, the largest inter-day price increase seen in two years. Prices are near a two-year high due to a lack of sellers in the market, indicating a lack of readily available product. Exports in October were the highest since December 2011 at 131.6 million gallons, with market players expecting exports to remain strong through the first quarter of 2017. Those exports are helping to wear down stock levels that in turn supports prices.
