EcoPetrol’s delayed Bioenergia ethanol plant begins production a year late

In Colombia, EcoPetrol commissioned its delayed $400 million Bioenergia ethanol plant last week in an effort to reach its full production capacity of 504,000 liters per day by the end of 2017. Continuous operations are expected by the end of the first quarter. Of the 20,000 hectares of sugarcane plantation that will eventually supply the facility, so far 17,300 hectares have been planted. The facility’s development is more than a year behind schedule and investigations are underway to determine why.
