Ugandan president wants E10 blending mandate to become law inside six months

January 24, 2017 |

In Uganda, the president has directed the minister of industry to bring a proposal for a 10% ethanol blending law to Parliament for passage within six months in an effort to support domestic production. Kakira Sugar just inaugurated its $36.6 million ethanol production facility producing 60,000 liters per day. If the ethanol is sold at $1 per liter, the country will save $20 million liters per year in foreign exchange from displaced imports. The president highlighted ethanol’s other uses beyond blending including as a cooking fuel that would help limit the 90,000ha of trees cut down for firewood and charcoal.
