Ireland to fully divest from fossil fuels over the next five years

In Ireland, the parliament has voted 90-53 to fully divest from fossil fuels, the first country to do so. The EUR8 billion Ireland Strategic Investment Fund must sell all of its investments in coal, gas and oil during the next five years. A member for County Claire has called on the government to focus on investment in renewables as the country has only reached half of its 12% renewable heating goal for 2020 and is an opportunity for farmers to provide feedstock for biofuels.
