Lygos develops high-efficiency, novel processes to produce renewable chemicals by using its expertise in synthetic biology and metabolic engineering. Lygos is a spin-off from the lab of Professor Jay Keasling, Director of the Joint BioEnergy Institute in Emeryville, CA.

One of the most interesting sustainable chemicals targets around is malonic acid, and Lygos proposes to make it. CEO Eric Steen gave this overview of malonic acid R&D in this Project Peer Review presentation at DOE.
