German biodiesel blending falls as diesel consumption increases

February 23, 2017 |

In Germany, biodiesel blend was slightly lower on the year last year at 5.61% in part as a result of double counting waste-based biofuels while ethanol blending was slightly higher at 5.78%. Although the biodiesel blending rate fell in percentage terms, biodiesel consumption was actually slightly higher at 2.15 million metric tons but diesel consumption rose 4%, lowering the overall blend rate. The opposite happened with ethanol, where ethanol consumption fell slightly but gasoline consumption fell as well.
