Chinese ethanol exports soar by 1,000% as ethanol policy shifts market

In China, ethanol exports soared by more than 1,000% in April at more than 13,540 cubic meters while imports slowed to a trickle in demonstration of the government’s dramatic shift towards domestic production as it works its way through more than 20 million metric tons of spoiled corn reserves. With new import taxes in place, ethanol imports were just 23 cubic meters. Until January, China had been a major export market for US ethanol so the US industry so calling on the Department of Commerce to investigate anti-competitive practices.
