WASDE gives market surprise with higher corn and soybean yields

September 13, 2017 |

In Washington, the USDA released its monthly WASDE report analyzing production and consumption estimates for corn that saw a surprise jump in yields for both corn and soybeans, numbers which immediately pushed down futures prices for both key biofuel feedstocks. Last month’s report was bearish, so the market was expecting lower yields in August that would lead to better news on prices but real production data for both corn and beans won’t be available until the October report.
