Ohio residents fear safety and environmental hazards of proposed rail spur

November 15, 2017 |

In Ohio, residents of south Bibb County near Macon are protesting Epic Midstream’s proposed rail spur that would connect a nearby ethanol transfer station, saying it would pose safety and potential environmental risks in case of a spill. A county judge ruled last week there wasn’t enough evidence to deny the conditional use permit and chastised the zoning board for giving into fear and not approving it previously. A ruptured jet fuel pipeline 30 years ago left a deep impression on the town and residents are seeking to avoid a repeat.
