In Belgium, a new documentary called “Green Gold” premiers this week looking at the evolution of the Renewable Energy Directive and how the biofuels lobbies at member state and European level impacted its development, pointing the finger at them for creating negative environmental impacts around the world as forests were allegedly cleared to produce biofuel for the European market. The film took seven years to make and seeks to show the “game of member states” and how access to policymakers at the European Parliament can have wider impacts.
