No leaks when six rail tankers carrying ethanol slipped off the track in Iowa

December 7, 2017 |

In Iowa, Messenger News is reporting that six rail tankers filled with ethanol from Valero Renewables came off the track Tuesday night west of Fort Dodge when a switching malfunction caused the cars to back up. None of the cars were completely overturned nor did any ethanol leak from the tanks that were among several pushed off the rails while they were being moved around the Canadian National Railway-owned rail yard. The ethanol needed to be transferred to other cars so as not to hold up the product.
