Brazilian mills rehydrating anhydrous ethanol to fill hydrous demand

January 24, 2018 |

In Brazil, Platts reports that ethanol producers are rehydrating anhydrous ethanol in light of soaring demand for hydrous due to its remaining competitive against gasoline mixed with anhydrous ethanol. During the harvest season, the premium for anhydrous ethanol typically runs between 6% and 10% but has recently hovered between 2% and 4.5%, triggering the rewatering by mills. As much as 300,000 cubic meters could be re-watered before the crush begins and makes hydrous more readily available.
