Public safety concerns surround leftover stover bales after DuPont sells Nevada plant

In Iowa, with DuPont selling its second-generation ethanol plant in Nevada, local authorities are concerned about the safety risk posed by the half million stover bales stored in 23 sites around the central Iowa region that will be leftover when the plant changes hands. The bales pose a serious fire hazard and could lead to unmanageable risk for city and county authorities to deal with should they catch fire and spread but Nevada’s public safety manager is said to be working with DuPont on a solution.
