Nigerian farmers begin to plant sugarcane for ethanol project in Kebbi

March 5, 2018 |

In Nigeria, following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding last year between the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and the state government of Kebbi, farmers have been planting sugarcane to supply a new ethanol facility that will be developed there. The governor has promised to provide harvesting machinery to facilitate the cane harvest as well as improve the road infrastructure to link cane growing communities. The Kebbi project is one of many biofuels projects in several states the NNPC is promoting to boost local production and reduce imports of refined fuels.
