Malaysia to hold up all trade negotiations with EU until palm oil issue sorted

March 6, 2018 |

In Malaysia, Reuters reports that the country’s minister for plantation industries and commodities told a conference it would react “with might and tact” should the European Union move forward with a policy to ban the use of palm oil for biofuel from 2021. Along with the EU’s non-tariff trade barriers, Malaysia is also facing a potential loss of its second largest market—India—who recently boosted its palm oil import duty.
