California rail ethanol prices jump on short supplies driven by export demand

April 23, 2018 |

In California, Platts reports a spike in ethanol prices last week with rail cars with sub-71 carbon intensity (CI) trading at $1.77/gal Friday while rail cars with 93.55 CI at $1.4875/gal Friday. Plant maintenance as well as lack of supply has been responsible for driving up prices lately thanks to increased demand for exports from the Gulf Coast and New York Harbor, a trend seen across the country in markets dependent on ethanol by rail car.
