POET overtakes ADM as largest ethanol producer

April 30, 2018 |

In Iowa, Reuters reports that as ADM scales down its ethanol production to 1.6 billion gallons of installed capacity, POET has filled the gap and taken over the former’s spot at top US producer with 2 billion gallons expected by 2019 and 1.9 billion gallons set for 2018. Previously the companies were neck and neck at around 1.8 billion gallons each of the country’s total 16 billion gallons. POET is focused on maximizing yields and boosting efficiency while ADM is looking for higher value markets in the beverage and industrial alcohol sectors.
