In the Philippines, the national coconut producers association is calling on the government to boost biodiesel blending to 5% from the current 2% in an attempt to increase demand for coconut oil. Producers say the program would help to support coconut farmers, and enough fuel for an additional 1% blending could already be available for August 1, with further increases introduced over the following months. Coconut oil prices have fallen 40% in recent months due to a production glut.
