Oil spill at Port of Rotterdam inhibiting biofuel trade

June 28, 2018 |

In the Netherlands, following a spill of 217 metric tons of heavy fuel oil at the Port of Rotterdam on Saturday, trade of ethanol, methanol, butanediol (BDO), vegetable oils, biofuel products and refinery products have been significantly impacted as ship owners wait for the clean up to be further along before ships go in or out. The port said that a washing vessel has been cleaning oil off of ships since Sunday while some jetties still need to be cleaned as well. Some indicators such as moving around booms lead analysts to believe that the southern area of the third petroleum terminal could open again soon.
