Philip Morris goes 100% biofuel for Ukraine factory

In the Ukraine, Philip Morris’ tobacco factory in Kharkiv will switch its 3.8MW boiler to biomass from gas, a $2.4 million investment, will lead to $15 million in cost savings annually in addition to the greenhouse gas emissions reduction resulting from the switch. The new boiler should be online by autumn and will produce 6 tons of steam for hour, providing the factory’s entire thermal demand. The company introduced to the facility a “heat, not burn” technology in 2016.
