US ethanol industry pushing India to let in imports

In India, while the country is looking for ways to ramp up its domestic production through the deregulation of feedstocks and technologies, the US is trying to wrangle the country into allowing imports for fuel ethanol until the local industry can catch up. At the recent Ethanol Summit of the Asia Pacific, the Business Standard newspaper reports that the US Grains Council, Renewable Fuels Association and Growth Energy argued that using imported ethanol would help to boost economic viability of Indian refineries that are running well below production capacity.
