Metsä’s biorefinery achieves 100% production capacity on schedule

In Finland, Metsä’s biorefinery in Äänekoski achieved 100% production capacity by August 8 as planned, when it produced its millionth ton of pulp following commissioning August 15, 2017. The facility produces product gas from bark, sulphuric acid from the mill’s odorous gases and biogas from the sludge from its wastewater treatment plant in addition to 1.3 million metric tons per year of pulp, tall oil, turpentine and bioenergy while it also is working to develop pulp-based lignin products and textile fibers.
