Indian government raises sugarcane juice-based ethanol price 25% to promote production

In India, the government agreed to raise the price of ethanol produced from pure sugarcane juice by 25% in an effort to boost production and reduce sugar production amidst a global surplus, near 10-year lows for sugar prices and record sugar production domestically. Although the industry recognizes it could take two to three years of investments in order to fully be able to take advantage of the opportunity, it believes that it could produce enough ethanol by that time to reach 15% blending from the roughly 5% blending it could supply currently.
