Virgin Atlantic to fly 747 from Orlando to London on LanzaTech fuel in October

September 20, 2018 |

In the UK, Virgin Atlantic announced that its partnership with LanzaTech will finally come to fruition in October when a Boeing 747 will fly from Orlando to London Gatwick partially fueled with LanzaTech’s aviation biofuel. Richard Branson’s announcement on his blog didn’t indicate what percentage of the fuel will be biofuel but did say it will be the first commercial flight using LanzaTech’s fuel. He said he believes that soon the fuel will be able to be produced and sold at prices equivalent to fossil-based jet fuel due to the abundance of the waste streams the technology uses to produce the biofuel.
