BNDES Giro approves $13.5M for Paraná sugar and ethanol plant

In Brazil, the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) approved R$50 million (approximately $13.5 million) financing for Companhia Agrícola Usina Jacarezinho to enable the company to improve its capacity and keep the approximately 1,800 employees throughout 2019.

Usina Jacarezinho has an industrial unit with processing capacity of 2.6 million tons of sugarcane, located in the municipality of Jacarezinho, Paraná. The unit produces white sugar, VHP (unrefined) sugar, hydrated ethanol and anhydrous ethanol.

In the 2017/2018 harvest, almost 2.5 million tons of sugarcane were crushed, with the production mix of 58% sugar and 42% ethanol. Usina Jacarezinho is part of the Maringá Group, incorporated in 2012, which in addition to the sugar-energy industry is also active in the metallurgy sector (ferro-manganese alloy manufacturing).
