Punjab looking to revive mothballed mills to produce ethanol

In India, Punjab is looking to revitalize mothballed cooperative sugarcane mills and take advantage of the stranded assets for upgrading into biorefineries. Growing demand for ethanol and power are seen as key drivers to bring these mills back online though more sugar isn’t needed due to the global surplus that is driven by out of control production throughout India. In addition to bringing the mills back online, a few new large-scale mills around 5,000 tons crushed per day capacity are under development that will also produce ethanol and power.
