Malaysian biodiesel now cheaper than fossil-based diesel

October 31, 2018 |

In Malaysia, the New Straits Times reports the primary industries minister says biodiesel is cheaper to use now than fossil-based diesel thanks to low palm oil prices. Though the country currently still blends just 7%, the Malaysian Palm Oil Board is working with a local municipality to trial B20 in its fleet of trucks. If oil remains at around $76 per barrel while palm oil stays around $525 per ton, the minister estimates industries could save $1.5 million per year using B7 while the government could save $2.5 per year in unspent subsidies if the blend were raised to B10.
